Authorities say a man was shot in the head and killed in an Orlando locksheets store after a violent robbery, which police say appears to be related to the person who stole a woman’s purse from a nearby car.
Orlando police say the man was killed Saturday evening at the Lockhart and Associates store, located at 1520 E. Central Ave.
Orlando Police Chief John Mina said a man who was being held at the scene at the time of the shooting was not armed.
The victim was shot once in the neck and is in critical condition, according to police.
Mina did not provide further details about the victim’s identity or condition.
Police say the stolen purse was recovered and the man who broke into the store was taken into custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
Lockhart & Associates opened in 2012 in the former Lockhart department store on Central Avenue, which was demolished in the early 2000s to make way for the Orlando International Airport.
A woman who lives near the store told the Orlando Sentinel she saw two men who appeared to be in their early 20s and were working inside the store.
The man who tried to break into the locksmith’s store and stole the purse told her that someone had called 911 and said he had stolen a woman from the parking lot of the store, according the paper.
She told the newspaper he was carrying a handgun and that the two men were armed.
The store was shut down in the wake of the fatal shooting.
