A locksmith in the Florida Keys has locked away a $1.9 million diamond ring that belonged to his wife, and then sold it on for $8,000, authorities said.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that John R. Wicks, owner of Ransom Jewelry, was arrested on Friday on charges of making false statements to the FBI.
The arrest came two days after Wicks’ wife, Jennifer, reported missing from the Florida town of Westland, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southeast of Miami.
The ring was found inside a garage belonging to Wicks and his wife at a home in a shopping center in the small town of Raccoon City, about 45 miles (60 kilometers) south of Miami, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Wicks, 50, is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, the Sentinel reported, citing a jail official.
