The poll of 1,077 adults nationwide finds that 49 percent of people who live in the state have a negative opinion of the state, while just 35 percent have a positive opinion.
That’s down significantly from the 49 percent who had a negative view in December 2016.
According to the poll, Washington is not the only state with a decline in public confidence in its public sector.
A recent CNN/ORC poll found that just 16 percent of Americans say they have a favorable opinion of Washington state’s public sector, while 42 percent have an unfavorable opinion.
That decline is most pronounced in Washington, where the state has the most negative views of public sector employees in the nation.
Just over half of respondents have a “strong” or “very” unfavorable view of the public sector at 36 percent, according to the CNN/orchestrated poll.
Thirty-two percent of respondents also said that they had a positive or neutral opinion of public workers in Washington.
A full 50 percent said that the public has a good or excellent relationship with the public sectors employees, while only 25 percent said the public does not have a good relationship.
Forty-one percent of voters said that Washington’s public employees do a good job of doing their jobs.
The CNN/Orchestration poll of 2,084 adults has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
The Washington, D.C., area had the highest number of positive views of Washington public workers with 53 percent of residents having a favorable view of Washington’s labor force.
In the national poll, residents in Hawaii are also showing a positive view of public employees, but only 27 percent have favorable views of the Hawaii public employees.
Fifty-five percent of Hawaii residents have a very favorable view, compared to 39 percent who have a strong negative opinion.
Residents of Maryland are the least positive of the 50 states with just 29 percent positive of their public workers.
The Maryland public employees have a relatively positive rating of 45 percent, compared with 55 percent in Washington and 58 percent in Massachusetts.
